Who's your Coach?
There are many great coaches out there, but who's the best? Numbers don't lie - titles, recruiting classes, wins, all of that stuff matters but so do the things that you can't take stats of - character, personality, and drive are big topics that come to mind. We'll take a look into who's the best, but don't be scared to let us know what you think about this topic!
When looking at the top recruiters, you got Nick Saban of Alabama, Urban Meyer or Ohio State, Jim Harbaugh of Michigan (in his second season), Jimbo Fisher of Florida State, Dabo Swinney of Clemson, and Les Miles of LSU. These are the coaches that come to mind when thinking of the best coaches in the nation and they are always the top recruiting coach and bring in the best talent. It's like a cycle: bring in a good class, have a good team, graduate a good class, bring in a good class, etc. You get the point and it's not hard to figure out why these coaches are always near the top. Alabama has won multiple titles in the last several years because they have a top coach and program.
Last year's playoff featured Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Michigan State. These schools have four of the top coaches in the country (Saban, Swinney, Bob Stoops, Mark Dantonio) and it's no mistake as to why they were in the playoff. The top coaches have the top programs and the top players. In my opinion, the top three coaches go as follows:
1. Nick Saban: Alabama - they're always winning and at the top of everything possible, so why not have him as #1?
2. Jim Harbaugh: Michigan - in only his second season and first as recruiting, he had a top 5 class brought in, and has Michigan in title conversations already.
3. Urban Meyer: Ohio State - they're in the same boat as Bama - always good, top classes, and always in title conversation. He belongs on this list.
